san francisco.

i'm in love with road trips and i try to take them as often as possible when i have a few days off.  i'm a pretty low maintenance girl.  it doesn't take much to make me happy... just a blank sketchbook and a cup of coffee.  i put a futon mattress in the back of my suv next to my surfboards and it turned out to be the best idea i've had in years.  i parked by the beach with my windows rolled down, slept each night hearing the waves and smelling the ocean air.

head on.

(artist: cai guo-qiang)
this art installation has stayed in my mind for a while and continues to inspire me.  i wish i had seen it in person when it was at the guggenheim museum-- all those wolves (fake replicas) running up the circular walkway only to hit a glass wall.

"i tried to find an animal that represents a collective heroism, an animal that likes company, that lives in a pack. i wanted to portray the universal human tragedy resulting from this blind urge to press forward, the way we try to attain our goals without compromise. this is something that keeps repeating itself all throughout human history. in zen philosophy, there is this idea of tragic beauty based on the notion that most of what happens has no meaning whatsoever.” - cai guo-qiang.

my sister brought me back this scarf from malaysia.  i usually wear a lot of neutrals so it adds a nice combination of colors and textures.

can i just express my love for crossroads trading co.?  i found these mango boots at the store on fillmore street in san francisco.  brand new and really inexpensive-- i snatched them up and carried them all around the city.  it's so much more satisfying when you find that hidden gem... i like surprises.  and soup.  and crossword puzzles.  and sometimes sharks.
